Daily Sensory Tip #3: Get Comfortable with Touch

A good relationship with touch can be important to feeling comfortable in the world. When a little human has an irritable sense of touch, parents often learn to give them space, which can also deprive them of soothing connection.

If someone in your life avoids touch, cuddles, or hugs, look for safe and comfortable ways to experience it. Messy play, soft textures, bodywork a person enjoys, and gentle connection can all be part of discovering what feels right.

As therapists, we know touch can be a powerful tool in helping people shift from fear and discomfort toward peace and comfort.
